In our post-Covid, climate-shifted, and digitally evolving world, the importance of robust knowledge in policy making is more pronounced than ever. However, this imperative is accompanied by growing complexities that demand attention.

INGSA’s fifth international conference, INGSA2024: The Transformation Imperative, marks a significant milestone as it ventures into Africa for the first time and invites participants from diverse backgrounds, including academia, policymaking, diplomacy, and the private sector. This event aims to address these challenges by centering its focus on the emerging theories and evolving practices of inclusion and diversity in the realm of science advice provided to governments. The conference will delve into questions surrounding the development, objectives, and reception of a more interconnected and inclusive approach to science advice.

AAS at the INGSA conference

The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) will be in Kigali, Rwanda from 1-2 May 2024 to participate in the 2024 INGSA conference. AAS will host two sessions at the INGSA conference.

Session 1: Unlocking solutions through transformational science: outlooks for Africa

AAS and the Frontiers Research Foundation will host a panel session on: Unlocking solutions through transformational science: outlooks for Africa. The session will be held on 2 May 2024 and will provide a platform for dialogue and proposed action to revolutionize the modus operandi of research in African institutions through addressing the challenges of the academic community, providing the foundation of driving systemic change.

Session 2: Plenary Panel — Inclusive Policies for Diverse Contexts

AAS will participate in the closing plenary panel on: Inclusive Policies for Diverse Contexts. The session will be held on 2 May 2024, the esteemed panellists will delve into what inclusive policy is an discuss the challenges surrounding inclusivity, equity and diversity in the scope of science and science advice.
